Viimastel nädalavahetustel olen rahulikumalt võtnud ning rohkem kodustele tegevustele keskendunud, sest kohe varsti on eesootamas lühendatud nädalavahetus (eelnevate riigipühade toimumise tõttu) ning pärast seda on kesksemestri eksamid. See aasta olen tõesti õnnelikum. 12 aastat Eesti koolisüsteemi on mind pigem kokku laulatanud eksamite ja kodutöödega kui filosoofiliste kirjanditega.
Nüüd lähen endale aga abayat ostlema. Sellest aga juba järgmine kord!
It is this time of the year again when the students of NYUAD are getting to know their final decisions of their study away and j-terms.In my opinion, struggling to find perfect study away site and j-term location are the most difficult ones in students' lives right now. Last year Shanghai was my second choice, fortunately, this year I received my first choice which was Abu Dhabi. I desperately wanted to stay here to finish one of my many requirements for Political Science. Staying in Abu Dhabi this j-term is also liberating because it means that next year I can once again travel around the world for a month. Hopefully, I can spend j-term in 2018 in Accra, Sydney or Buenos Aires. Before the next j-term, I also had to choose where do I want to spend my spring semester. The application process started in May and had to be completed by June 1. Then in late July or early August, they gave us initial confirmation. Those who received positive initial results from NYU Abu Dhabi knew that this is not final because New York has to approve it as well. The second round means that students from all three campuses have to compete with each other to secure the places. The whole process so far took approximately 5 months. We were supposed to receive final confirmation on October 10, but as classes passed and no results were released, we assumed that probably they will send all the letters from New York. We thought what would be logical, yet strategic times when they would send the letters. We calculated everything according to right time zones, but nothing. Due to excitement and inability to focus, I decided to go to sleep early and start studying early morning when I have the results. The letter said YES. This meant that all my google searches for '50 places you must see in Paris/France', late night obsessions and planning trips finally paid off!
All in all, I have taken things rather slowly here and thus, I do not have a lot of news. Due to a number of Islamic holidays at the beginning of the school year, we now have to face weeks without weekend since free days were substituted with school days. Yet I cannot complain. This year is much better since I actually will have exams, not only philosophical essays. I guess following Estonian curriculum for 12 years, did leave its mark.
Now I am off to buy an abaya!
