Sama kindel kui eestlaste fakt, et jaanipäev on juunikuus, on inimestele Araabia Ühendemiraatides kindel, et novembrikuus hakkavad vormeliässad Abu Dhabis rehve kulutama. Aasta suursündmusest võtsin ka see aasta osa. Taaskord on F1 näide sellest, kuidas mind ümbritseb huvitav aura või väga veider karma. Alguses olin kindel, et see on võib-olla kodukeskkonnaga seotud, kuid ausaltöeldes, mida rohkem ma reisin seda veidrama käekäigu mõningased asjad võtavad. Aga paljude asjade kokkulangemise tõttu, sain jälgida viimasel päeval just sõidu lõppu, tähistamist, ilutulestikku.
It is this time of the year again when the Christmas spirit comes. Unconsciously it is expressed in ingrained ideas of skiing, listening Christmas carols, make gingerbread and so on. This has made me appreciate my background and traditions that are far too weird for this culture and climate. I guess the most positive thing that living in the UAE has given to me is the understand of normality and how much it differs from approximately 80% of the students. In addition, understanding what I like and what not. Like the previous year, I still feel that snow and wider conception of winter, is way too big part of me to ignore it (hint: one of the reasons why I picked a European city for exchange year). Now living in the arid tropical zone, I have started to value 4 seasons (and Estonian fifth season called bad ski weather). But you won't understand it before you step the first step out of your comfort zone and explore the world... PS! Skyping session with friends and family really don't help me since all they speak about is how they already have snow since the second week of November. Now, more than ever, I have determined to spend some time skiing in Europe.
The celebration of the last session of F1 in Abu Dhabi is as guaranteed as Midsummer Eve for Estonians. And I had a chance to see what was happening behind the curtains, just like last year. This event is another example that things just happen to me or that I have weird karma. Before, when I used to live in Estonia, I was sure that I was just not meant for that environment, but after moving to Abu Dhabi, I understood that there is something about me and not the environment. Nevertheless, I was lucky to capture few last minutes of the race and fireworks. All of the experiences definitely outweigh every night of studying for the new week and those few hours of sleep at night. By the way, I also received the autograph from Jenson Button, to whom Abu Dhabi Grand Prix was the last race fo his racing career.
Baking gingerbread and a gingerbread house with my friends have definitely nailed the entire past couple of weeks. In the middle of November, we made the mixture, bought icing and now, right before the celebration of the UAE National Day, baked gingerbreads for 4 hours! I also planned to offer my friend some Christmas food from home. I served blood sausage with sour cream (smetana) and aromatic salt that my mom had brought with her. You could imagine my surprise when they all said that they liked it and demanded more!
